Potential Ethical and Legal Challenges in Professional Practices

The specific ethical dilemma a counselor may anticipate difficulty when providing “treatment” because of a concordance between ethical practice and personal belief system are the responsibilities connected to the informed consent policies involving minors. It is important for a counselor to know his or her values and integrity when ethical and legal challenges occur in the practice, especially when a two-edge dilemma e.g., responsibility to parents and legal guardians, and release of confidential information. Issues of this nature will be discussed throughout the content of this paper such as: Minor clients’ rights to confidentiality, court cases, and ethical issue when working with minors, risk management for community counselors, and counselor’s responsibilities.
